Museum trip

Yesterday we went to the museum to see how the maori had to innovate to advance and do things they wouldn’t normally be able to do.

They had to know where to find all the special materials and where to go to get the right food.

We looked around the museum to look at how innovations in history and the tools the maori used to use.

After that we went into the museum classroom to see how those tools worked and then we got to use them.

We had lots of fun and I learned a few things I didn’t know before.

Have you gone to the museum before?

What did you learn?

Winter sports 2019

Winter Sports

This winter sports season was my first season with school.

We went to nunweek park every thursday to play hockey.

I have never actually played hockey in a team so it was a great experience.

Me and my team have had a mix of wins and losses.

My coach was great she was really encouraging.

We started the season with lots of losses but through the season we got better and better and
in the end we didn’t finish a game without at least one goal.

We had lots of fun and scored lots of goals.

What sport do you play?

Here is a picture of my team.

P.B.L Term 3 2019

P.B.L
Term 3
This term for P.B.L we are focusing on how innovation can improve our lives.
We have been going to different classes and doing different challenges.

First we made planes out of playdoh, straws, and paper then raced them,we got points for the time it was in the air and how fast it went.
I knew if I made my body out of a straw, paper as wings and playdoh at the end for weight it would go really fast.

The straw held it together, the wings helped it glide and the playdo gave it weight at the front.

My plane won with a score of 4.5m

We  were only practising but what do you think you could make to change the world?

Ice caps

This term in reading we have been reading about the environment.
We read this article.
Now that I have read this article I have a greater understanding of what is happening.
The temperatures are rising because of climate change and it is melting the ice caps in the south and north pole causing the seas to rise and extreme flooding.
Scientists say that the ice caps contain 70% of the world's freshwater supply.

Here are some ideas to stop climate change:

I think we should:

  • Use electric cars
  • Invent electric buses
  • Buy solar panels
  • Bike or scooter to school
  • Or simply turning the light off when your out of the room

I hope I have inspired you to do something to help the environment

What changes will you make to help the environment?

PBL - Term 1 2019

😜😋

✌😃😃👍

This term our Project Based Learning (PBL) has been about kindness and the big question was: How can we build community through our actions?

First, we explored some collaborative activities and discussed how we could include kindness and build a sense of community through our actions at camp. Next, we were organised into groups where we had to unpack the above question. In our groups we considered how we could spread community and kindness through our entire school community. We decided that we would offer something that was free and would make others happy.

We created an action plan and discussed what we were going to do. In the end we landed on one decision.

Reflection:
For our final product our group made kindness cards and on Thursday we handed them out at the gate.

Our group built a sense of community in our school by spreading kindnes when we gave the cards out.

I contributed by making some of the kindness cards and handing them out.

I think the PBL might impact on others by making them have a better day!

What I learned about working with others was we get things done faster together.
